States of Matter....Final Experiments

The students have really enjoyed our States of Matter unit and over the past 2 weeks we finished up our last experiments.
We did a solid to liquid, back to solid experiment with almond bark. The kids loved seeing what it looked like melted and then we poured it out and later that day saw that it was solid again. Of course we had to taste it too! :)

Yesterday we made Oobleck...what a mess!  I think it was worth it though.
They discussed whether it was a liquid or solid, or both.

Elections!

We started our election unit by reading a book called "If I Were President". The kids did a poster of themselves and then wrote what they would do if they were president. They had some great ideas! :)

Room on the Broom Character Traits

We read a book called "Room on the Broom" and talked about the characters, setting, problem, and solution in the story. We also did a Venn Diagram to compare the traits of the two main characters. They came up with some great words to describe the characters! We did a craft to go along with the learning and each student picked 3 words for each character to put on their craft.

Science Experiment

We have done a couple of science experiments this month.  We used soda and pop rocks to learn how gas expands a balloon and we made rootbeer floats. They discovered that a rootbeer float has all 3 states of matter!

Halloween Jokes!

Every year I print a little Halloween joke book for the kids to read. They love telling jokes so they had a blast reading them with a buddy!

Playing Math Games

We like to play math games.  It's a good way to learn math facts and how to cooperate with other students. :) Plus using goldfish to mark the spots and to snack on, is a good time!
