Science-States of Matter

2nd grade science standards include learning about States of Matter. (solids, liquids, gas) We started by learning what these different states are and did a sort. We put together a flip book that we will use throughout the unit. We will start our experiments next week! Very exciting! :)

Read to Someone

We practiced reading with a buddy, to get ready for our literacy time next week. We started by making our "Read to Someone" chart. 

Classroom Rules

We worked together to create our classroom rules. First the kids put their ideas on a post-it note and then shared our idea with a friend. As a group we wrote all of the ideas on a piece of chart paper, then narrowed it down to one big idea or phrase. All our ideas were put on either respect, responsibility or ready to learn.

We talked about what a contract is and all of the students have a copy of the rules contract their data binders, that they signed. 

Computer Time

We have class computer time on "B" days. Always a popular activity. :)

Brag Tags

The kids are loving earning Brag Tags! We went over the rules and they are on their way to earning a class reward. If we have earned a class total of 100 tags they will get to "unlock" the reward on our brag tag board. 

Creating our Classroom Mission

All of the Jensen classrooms create their own classroom mission statements. We started by putting ideas in a chart then narrowed each column down to a few words. I was so proud of their ideas and their mission is amazing!

7 Habits....Being Proactive

We are starting the year by reviewing the 7 habits. We read books about being proactive. (Being in charge of yourself) We did a craft and some writing to go along with our learning. They turned out so cute!

Read to Self Practice

During our reading block we will have time to read on our own.  We are practicing building our stamina. 

First Week of School Fun!

We are having a great 1st week of school! We are getting into routines and getting used to being back at school. They had fun doing a get to know you activity called "People Bingo".
